Extensometer

Accurate measurement of strain for material test samples often requires a measurement directly on the sample with an extensometer. This measurement is necessary because the instrument’s displacement sensor measures all the deformation, not just the deformation of the sample gauge length. Industry standards such as ASTM D638 and ISO527 include extensometers as necessary equipment to perform those experiments.
