The Phoenix Flex is a truly innovative new diffusion tester for permeation research of skin flux, introduced by Teledyne LABS in early 2026. Packed with benefits for In Vitro Permeation Testing (IVPT) of transdermal drug delivery and other topical and transdermal substances, it provides fully automated filling, collection, rinse, refill, wash, and bubble removal to streamline regulated workflows. It’s operated by 21 CFR Part 11–compliant control software, making the Phoenix Flex a powerful IVPT solution designed specifically to meet USP <1724> and FDA requirements for full media replacement or large aliquot replacement in IVPT studies.

Easy To Use, Advanced Design

Diffusion-cell permeation/absorption testing of skin flux in topical and transdermal absorption, including semi-solid permeation, previously was cumbersome, time-consuming and subject to inconsistency due to procedural variances. The Phoenix Flex dry-heat diffusion cell system makes running IVPT simple and less prone to operator error. The gains in cost-savings, precision, consistency, lab capacity and throughput are significant.

The Phoenix Flex includes an advanced dry-heat diffusion cell, compact 6-cell or 12-cell blocks, and a robotic platform that deliver accurate, repeatable, compliant results in skin research. Automated tilting of cell blocks eliminates bubbles in receptor media to avoid distortion of IVPT diffusion studies, assuring accurate drug absorption data—perfect for determining the bioequivalence of topicals.

The system runs on 21CRF Part 11 compliant Diffusion Master software, a Windows-based workstation that can control and document two Phoenix Flex systems in tandem, for an unattended run of up to 24 diffusion cells using one computer.
